Great phone rewiring how-to over at No Pattern Required

I was scrolling through my iPhone's Google Reader this morning and decided I have to share this nicely illustrated how-to over at No Pattern Required.  Guest poster Dave runs you through rewiring a vintage Princess phone, but the steps would apply to most old rotary dial telephones.  I've got several of these in our home (like the one above on our killer gossip bench), but none are connected since we cut the cord with the phone company last year and get by only with cell phones.  But wouldn't it be great if someone came up with a way to make one of these old analog phones work with bluetooth or something? Anyway, check out this tutorial!

  1. Thanks, because I need to rewire my pink rotary phone! I have two landlines, and intend on connecting the vintage phone to the second line. =) I may not have it plugged in very often as I need the phone lines for work, and everything these days requires a "press 3" or whatever, but I want it to work!

  2. That phone chair looks amazing! I've never seen one like that before. I still really want an old Mid century Phone chair!

  4. Yeah, when I saw that on a flea market vendor's unloaded truck early one Saturday I was all over it. It has an arm for a lamp that connects behind the table piece but it was missing a shade and I thought it looked better this way. I've never seen anything like it.

  6. That gossip bench is SO. COOL. You're killing me. They have a bluetooth-ready rotary phone handset on Think Geek, but without the cord and the rest of the phone it looks kind of silly. I wonder if it has a jack to attach a cord and a phone base...?

    Check it out here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/cellphone/8928/

  7. I've seen those bluetooth handsets - they would be great for using while you're away from home. There is a guy on etsy.com who makes retro looking phones you can dock an iPhone to, but they're pretty expensive. Glad you like the gossip bench!
