Oh Uncle_Atom, She Twittered

Being anti-Facebook (sorry everyone else in the ENTIRE World), I have not ever created a Facebook account.  I'm not anxious to be marketed at any more than I already am.

I'm really on the fence about Twitter, too.  I signed up last year with another username, but I didn't really try to figure it out, so I deleted that account.  But, I waited years to decide to dip the old Uncle's toe into blogging, and so far, that has turned out pretty OK.  At least it's getting you a chance to win the Mint-in-Box lamp over there at the top of the right column ====>>> [UPDATE:contest ended Aug. 15, 2010]

So, if you care (and I won't blame you if you don't!), there's now an Uncle_Atom Twitter account.  I guess the first (and maybe last) tweet I send could be to announce the winner of MIB awesome unbelievable pull-down lamp Giveaway.  (No, not yet, there's another week to go!).  But I'll still announce the winner here too.

If you get a tweet from the Uncle, it might be a Haiku, or a short story, but it will not be about what I had for breakfast, or some exhortation to vote for somebody for President. And while I'm pontificating, I have no intention of trying to ever make a buck off this blog, so no ads.  I just do this for fun, and maybe to help someone solve a problem or save a worn-out, mid-century marvel.  If I ever do start an Etsy account, it will just be to offload stuff accumulating dust in the Atomic Attic.  Right now you can look at my Etsy favorites if you want, there's a link somewhere on here for that.  I get and want no commission for any sales, and don't even know the sellers, I just add stuff to my favorites.

How's that for a halfhearted, couldn't-care-less approach to Twittering and social media in general?  So if you must, there's a Twitter Follow button over there in the left column.  Yes, over there <<<====

Oh, and please, don't tell me what I'm missing on FB.  :-)

  1. I always have too much to say to bother with something like Twitter. Not that what I have to say is important of course--I just like to blab alot.

  2. I hear you, my post above could have been two sentences or less. I like the challenge of writing short for different forms. Never been a poet, but I love writing Haiku, so Tweets offer that same challenge. We'll see.

  3. I was super skeptical of Twitter when I started but I quite like my little community & I've met some real life nice people as a result, weird huh? I am not a fan of FB either I have a profile but really I don't go on much.

  4. I have a FB acct to keep up with some friends from high school, no Twitter and talk too much not to have a blog. I'm right there with you.

  5. Hope I didn't come across too harshly in the above post. I'm not making judgments about anyone else's blogs - I go to all of my favorites regardless of the presence of ads. I've toyed with showing current auction favorites on here, but it seems like too much work since linked stuff will dry up and go away after auctions end. I might still consider it if I can find a workable solution, just because there are a ton of very cool things that come up for sale and I can't buy em all, so it would be good to help find a good home for the ones I can't have.

Anyway, sorry for the slight rant above. I just want folks to know I have no motive other than to enjoy mid-century atomic stuff and encourage its preservation.

  6. I am also not a big facebook lover, I was badgered into getting a account by friends.. I rarely sign on and when I do I have missed so many updates I have no clue what's going on with anyone anyways. I have been so close to deleting it on many occasions. lol

  7. Your missing nothing on Facebook Uncle Atom. Its a snoop-fest that I wasn't prepared for. I dumped it 2 months after I started. I figure I talk to all the people I want to know anyhow. My wife likes it though.

  8. I've never had a Facebook account and never plan on it. I do have Twitter and use it constantly, but it's way different. More of a chat for me with other people who are on Twitter peppered in with my One Line Gems.
