Classic bicycles

When I started making progress on restoring our Shasta camper (more posts to come on that as the weather warms up), I began thinking about things that would be good accessories to go with the camper.  Coolers, radios, folding chairs, dishware, and vintage decals all came to mind.  Then I got the idea that you really need a bicycle to get around a campground, so I started learning about mid century bicycle. She Who Must Be Obeyed began to sigh about yet another thing I might start collecting -- she was right.

I've since found several old single-speed coaster-brake bicycles.  This 26-inch ladies bike is the most original and complete that I've found so far.  The handgrips, seat, and even the tires are original and in very good shape for being about 45 years old.  And check out the graphics -- I love the styling and details on these babies.  Is anyone else here collecting old bikes?  Got any photos to share?

  1. I had a 1950 ladies Schwinn, baby blue with white pin stripes. It was a beauty. Sadly, I had to leave it behind when we left Alaska. There wasn't room for it in the shipping container. We should have left our couch behind instead! What was I thinking?

  2. Haha, If I had to move far now, I would have to have a blowout sale, the house, attic and basement are full of stuff. I found this bike on ebay and got a great price because it was pick up only -- had to drive two hours one way to get it, but it was worth it. Watch sales and craigslist locally and I'll bet you can find another old bike you like.

  3. I have a 1963 canned ham camper and boy are you right about collecting Vintage Camp Gear, mine is currently filled with it. You can pick that stuff up for cheap now-a-days and there is nothing cooler than going Vintage Camping! Some day I'll do a post on mine, once its cleaned out. Its named the Sugar Shack!

  4. Thanks Amber, I'll be interested in seeing your camper. Been checking out your blogs - they're a great read for anyone following the Uncle Atom blog. And thanks for following this blog, you just put me over the 25 followers mark, woo hoo!
