D-Day

World War II Allied Forces began the invasion of Normandy, France, on this day 66 years ago.

My father was there, serving on a U.S. Navy minesweeper.  It was a little wooden ship that was part of the pre-invasion forces that swept the shorelines under enemy fire to detect and destroy mines under water, so that the landing crafts could approach the beaches and get troops onto land.  Pretty hairy stuff for anyone to live through. For a good overview of the D-Day invasion, check out this post  by fellow blogger Viewliner Ltd.   If you know or knew any WWII veterans, pause for a moment and remember them and their sacrifices.  Thanks Dad, I miss you.
